A lot of what you say is true, but calling it a "scam" also shows a lack of understanding of the tool.

It may be more accurate to say that "Statistical significance is terribly misunderstood, and thus misused, by both scientists and laypeople."

For example, the (yes arbitrary) cutoff of 5% (p< 0.05) has never meant, "Hey! We did it!" It means, inarguably, anything greater than this is useless. P=0.051 means the data should absolutely just be discarded. People who think that P=0.05 means the data is inherently valuable understand neither science nor P-value.

Point being, the fault isn't with P-value or even the 5% cutoff.

It's with people who don't understand the proper significance of a P-value or how to take that value into consideration.
