I guess what I'm saying is, the market rarely moves from rational responses to those numbers. It invariably moves in knee-jerk, emotional responses to those number(that often make no sense whatsoever based on the numbers) as well as a million "non-number" related news and rumors.

People who assume a stock will move in direction "X" because "Numbers report Y" implies the company is strong and growing are deluding themselves.
