The problem with "He's a lair" as a reassurance, is that our businesses, allies, and enemies know this too.
I.e.
Will he create tariffs on China? No one knows! So,
- US companies with an overseas presence will consider moving all their production targeted at the China market out of the US...lest they lose profit margins from Trumps tariffs.
- China will begin courting other countries (like Russia) even more heavily.
- US consumers will suffer no matter what he does, because of the fear of him doing it.
But, hey, maybe he won't. But the US companies and rest of the world can't wait to see what he does. They'll do this in advance. If he doesn't create tariffs - well, se' la vie.
And, of course, Trump has already dramatically damaged our democracy. He's done it by completely re-writing the script for politics. So many voters (perhaps even the OP) has never lived in a time where ...
- Politicians had an expectation of financial transparency.
- Politicians had an expectation of self-governed ethics and integrity.
- American faith in facts and the 4th estate was not in tatters.
- Profiteering from the office was not considered "normal and appropriate"
- Political candidates did not play a game of spewing "anything and everything" at their opponent, with an understanding that the voters will immediate forget everything they've said and done after the election is over...because that was "just campaigning." (No, Virginia, it hasn't always been this way.)
Maybe he'll try and become a dictator. But - even if he doesn't try - he's already made it 1000% easier for the the next actual wannabe dictator to step in and succeed.
All he can do in office is more of this damage. But, with luck, he'll spend most of his time profiteering from the office...since that's all he legitimately cares about.
